If the complaint is a burner or a cavity, the level the kitchen sits on changes nothing except the carry. If the complaint is extraction, it changes the diagnosis: in a hillside house the fan doing the work is often nowhere near the hood you are standing under.
Kitchens that are not on the entry floor
A hillside plot puts the front door wherever the road is and the kitchen wherever the view is, frequently two levels apart. For most faults that is irrelevant: an igniter, a valve, a sensor and a control are all fixed standing in front of the appliance.
It stops being irrelevant the moment something has to travel. A cavity door, a glass panel or a replacement appliance goes up or down whatever the house has — an outside stair, a switchback, a lift in the newer places. Where the blower actually is
Wolf publishes its ventilation with the blower inside the hood, inline in the duct, or mounted remotely at the far end of it. On a hillside house the last two are common: the run has a long way to go before it reaches open air.
That matters when the hood stops pulling. What you can see is a liner doing nothing; what failed might be a motor on another level, the control in the canopy, or the wiring between them. Nobody should be climbing onto a roof or a hillside to look, and none of it is guessable from the kitchen — the run is traced from the liner outwards, and whichever of the three it proves to be is what the quote covers.

Only two of the four lights worked and they buzzed. Not the bulbs: the little transformer in the canopy had cooked itself. He swapped it and re-seated the sockets, then took the baffles away to degrease.
